Don't be fooled...Jul 01, 2009
By James S. Stone Don't be fooled as I was. I ordered this product on Wednesday evening with expedited shipping (a $35 upgrade) expecting the package to be delivered on Friday or Saturday for Father's Day -- after all, that's how it was being promoted on Amazon. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the product wouldn't even be shipped until the Monday after Father's Day. Here's the explanation I got from someone at Omaha Steaks. Your Amazon order on Wednesday was delivered to us on Thursday (surprise #1), and your expedited shipping is an upgrade to two day shipping (surprise #2) and we don't send out two day packages on Thursday or Friday because we don't want them to be stuck in a truck or a warehouse over the weekend (surprise #3).
Wow! If expedited shipping is two day delivery, how slow is standard shipping? I mean, this is frozen meat we're talking about. And while I appreciate Omaha's concern about weekend delays, the product shouldn't have been advertised for Father's Day delivery on Wednesday because it was already impossible for that to occur. Amazon only offered two shipping options -- standard and expedited -- and even with the faster option, Omaha couldn't complete the deal on time. Then there's the issue of the estimated delivery date. In my case, the date range from from Friday, June 19 to Wednesday, June 24. That was an outright lie! There was no way it was going to be delivered on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday based on the shipping explanation provided by the Omaha Steak representative. The earliest ship date and the fastest available shipping option meant delivery would occur on Wednesday, June 24th or later. What a rip-off!
Omaha Steaks refused to make any kind of accommodation. All I wanted was a refund of my expedited shipping fee because seven day delivery is anything but expedited. Not happening from Omaha. The Amazon staff agreed to refund half of the expedited shipping fee which seemed somewhat fair since they provided the bogus delivery date calculations.
Anyway, take it from me -- the meat is OK, not great, and the service is terrible. Don't make the same "mis-steak" I did. Stay away from this company!
