5Great Wood Ear Mushrooms - PLUS Bonus Engrish FunniesJan 12, 2011
By Moobs
These Wood Ear mushrooms are GREAT! They come in individually wrapped little bricks that expand like a foam dinosaur in a little plastic capsule until you have a mound of firm, fresh mushrooms about the size of your head. It's pretty incredible. Just plop the brick into a large bowl of warm/hot water and let sit. Then drain, cut around and discard the thick stem parts, and use the yummy shrooms as desired - I julienne them and add them to homemade moo goo gai pan.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

In the box is a hilarious instruction pamphlet titled "New Eatable Mushroom Recipes" that is infinitely quotable and belongs on [...] - gems like "sliced giner" and "These kinds of eatable mushroom, not only are tasteful but also contain aminos, especially the proportion of which is mostly close to the necessity of human body".

4Like the texture, doesn't turn to mushy messNov 23, 2010

I love the texture in home made Hot and Sour soup. the package is deceiving, looks like more in the box than there is for the price. There are about 10 small boxes in that big box, both sides padded with cardboard to make it look like you're getting more product. It does EXPAND A LOT once it's put in warm water. Very good in the Hot & Sour soup mentioned earlier.

5Great value!Jan 25, 2012

Buying the little packets of '' at the grocery store is really expensive, so this is a great alternative. One tiny box (there are 13, I think) makes about twice what I used to get at the store. It's enough for a huge double batch of muxu pork, for less than $1.50 each!

5If you like black fungus this is a great productDec 03, 2011
By Ann
It is a little pricey but beats, hands down, the black fungus available in my local Asian Market. Use it in place of mushroom in stir fry and soups.

5Auricularia Black Fungus Mushroom (Black Wood Ear Mushroom)Jul 13, 2011
By C. Caruso
They really do yield at least 10 times their volume after soaked! Adds charatcter and texture to your Chinese cooking or anything else to which you add them. Flavor is mild and works well with other flavors to build depth.
